Greg Maddux

Each day we feature something from our collection of childhood bubblegum memories.  For those who remember them, these baseball cards have their own stories to tell.

What does this card bring to mind for you? Please share in the comments!

We would love to hear from you. Send a Tweet to @baseballisms with a quick message, send us an email or visit our Upload page with a video message.  We look forward to growing a community of fans interested in the poetry of the game of baseball!

Who would have guessed in 1989 that Maddux would end up being one of the top ten pitchers of all time? Certainly not the Cubs, who let him get away. His baseball cards are still under-valued, although they'll get a boost once he enters the HOF.

Isn't that the truth .. It was a joy to watch him closely here in Atlanta for those many years. We still think he was sort of taken for granted in a way by many of the fans. He will be in a very esteemed group when all is said and done. Do a search on the site here from some Maddux related things, including a video message from Pete Watson who does a mean imitation of his pitching motion!

Hi Joe, I continue to enjoy your website very much. I think nearly everyone
took Maddux for granted because he always made it look so easy. He was one
of the most natural pitchers I ever saw; used to watch Braves games on TBS
several years ago. I'll check out the website to find the video message.
    Take care, Bill
