Ellie Rodriguez

Each day we feature something from our collection of childhood bubblegum memories.  For those who remember them, these baseball cards have their own stories to tell.

What does this card bring to mind for you? Please share in the comments!

We would love to hear from you. Send a Tweet to @baseballisms with a quick message, send us an email or visit our Upload page with a video message.  We look forward to growing a community of fans interested in the poetry of the game of baseball!

Ellie was assistant to the president of the Atlantic League, Joe Klein, during my four-year umpiring tenure there (1998 – 2001.) He was, and remains, a first class baseball guy, and has been instrumental in solving sometimes complex visa problems for players from the Dominican Republic and other Latin countries who join the league. He's also a very sweet person – but if he heard me say that, he'd probably deny it! He made a gift for me BY HAND in honor of my four years of service to the league, with a handwritten note of thanks for all I had done during my time there. A lovely, thoughtful man, and still a great credit to baseball.

Perry .. you are the best! What a great insight. I remember Ellie Rodriguez because he was a catcher and I have his baseball card .. but now I have an even better reason to like him. Thanks for sharing!
