1976 Topps

Don Kessinger

Each day we feature something from our collection of childhood bubblegum memories.  For those who remember them, these baseball cards have their own stories to tell.

What does this card bring to mind for you? Please share in the comments!

We would love to hear from you. Send a Tweet to @baseballisms with a quick message, send us an email or visit our Upload page with a video message.  We look forward to growing a community of fans interested in the poetry of the game of baseball!

  • Perry Barber

Don Kessinger was the last player/manager in the major leagues. That was in 1979 when he played shortstop for the Chicago White Sox and also managed them to a fairly mediocre 73-87 won-lost record, winding up fifth in a seven-team division during a year when no team in the American League west won more than 88 games.

Viva baseball history! Thanks to baseballisms for bringing back the memories.

Perry .. welcome back! I had forgotten about the player/manager stint that he had. I always associate Don Kessinger with the Cubs, so when I went to post this card it just seemed strange to see him in the red St. Louis hat.
