The “Spaceman” Bill Lee…where do I start! My fondest memories of the somewhat controversial left hander are not from his Major League Baseball career. I remember when the Montreal Expos released Lee in 1982 after he walked out on the team to protest the release of one of his teammates…Rodney Scott if my memory serves me correct.

The fondest memories of the “Spaceman" are from 1984 to 1987…when Bill Lee played in the New Brunswick-Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League. He played for the Moncton Mets…a senior team about 200km from where I live. When the Mets came to town to play our Fredericton Royals, people would flock to the ball park in hopes of watching Lee pitch! The crowd and the local media absolutely loved the guy as you never knew what the Spaceman was going to do or say. Over the 3 seasons he spent here, his record was something like 40-5!

Bill Lee just cracks me up, whether it is reading one of his books or watching an interview on TV! Good choice by the Baseballisms Team this week!
