About Baseballisms
December 14th, 2007Welcome to Baseballisms! We are dedicated to the poetry of the game of baseball.
Everyone has their own baseballism - whether it’s a fond remembrance from playing the game as a Little Leaguer or watching a ballgame today with your granddad, something about the game of baseball triggers an emotional response.
It’s these stories, these baseballisms that we consider the poetry of the game. As long-time passionate fans of baseball, we have come to appreciate the beauty of the written and spoken words that the game of baseball inspires.
We believe that in the era of rotisserie leagues and “moneyball”, much of the literate element has been overshadowed by the statistical analysis and mania. We’re not putting down the stats in any way - we truly believe that they can bring a greater understanding of the intricacies of baseball to many fans, as well as assist the executives of the game to better manage their personnel.
However, nothing can stoke the passions greater than hearing Vin Scully eloquently describing Dodger Blue on the green grass of Chavez Ravine or reading the words of Roger Kahn in The Boys of Summer. They help you to smell the leather and feel the dust.
And then there are the baseballisms that come from the everyday fans of the game. We want to provide an outlet for these gems so that they are passed from person to person, generation to generation. Capturing and sharing these emotional stories is what Baseballisms.com is all about.
